Warren Duck Obituary

Warren Eugene Duck of Mill Hall passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2024 in Lock Haven. Born May 25, 1933 at their home in Salona, Gene was the 5th of 6 children of Truman Edward and Elizabeth Charolette (Wertz) Duck.

He had fond memories of growing up in Salona and told people he wouldn’t trade his childhood for anything. Gene started school at the Mackeyville School, then attended the Salona school through 10th grade, and graduated from Mill Hall High in 1951.

From June of 1953 through May of 1955, he served in the United States Army at Camp Gordon, Georgia, working on communication lines. He reached the rank of Corporal, received the National Defense Service Medal, and then served 8 years in the Army Reserve.

Gene and his first wife, the former Barbara June McLaughlin, married in 1953 and had two children: Kimberly Eugenia (Robert) Neff and Jeffrey Clay (Vickie) Duck, and a grandson, Jacob Clay (Ashleigh) Neff.

In 1964 he wed the former Janet Ruth Smith and had two more children: Tanya Lyn (Chris) Miller and Trent Eugene (Lindsay) Duck, and grandsons Dakotah Seth and Kyler Scott Miller.

Gene was an avid fisherman and could often be seen fishing for trout along Fishing Creek in Mill Hall or for crappies at the dam in Howard, unless it was small game season and then he’d be shooting his limit of rabbits at every opportunity.

Ducky worked at the local papermill for 42 years before retiring in 1998 and is fondly remembered by many of his coworkers for the delicious fish fries that he held at the mill and shared with them.

After his retirement Gene enjoyed sitting on the front porch, watching the birds, doing word search puzzles, searching the sky for planes, and of course taking naps, which was always one of his favorite things to do. And in his last few years he was obsessed with sticker by number puzzles that he proudly shared with everyone he met.

In addition to his children and the GrandDucks, Gene is survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Richard, Allan, Edward and Theodore Duck, his sister Marguerite (Sis) Snyder, and both wives.

At Gene’s request, there will be no services.
