Walter Myers Obituary

Walter “Jim” Myers, 83, of Beech Creek, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 9, 2025. Born on January 14, 1942, in Lock Haven, he was the beloved son of Walter E. and Gladys I. (Hamm) Myers.

Jim was a proud 1961 graduate of Lock Haven High School and went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Marine Corps from 1964 to 1968. During his service, Jim was assigned to the 8th and I, where he played a vital role in protecting U.S. interests throughout the Washington, D.C. area. His distinguished duties included presidential detail for President Lyndon B. Johnson, as well as standing guard at the U.S. Senate, House of Representatives, the Pentagon, and Camp David. He also served as a member of the Honor Guard, providing solemn tributes to his fallen comrades—a role he carried out with deep respect and dignity. Following his military service, Jim dedicated 36 years to Woolrich Woolen Mills, working in the sewing department. It was there he met the love of his life, Marvel W. (Robinson) Myers, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with devotion and shared joy.

Jim was a man of faith and community, a faithful attendee of the Lock Haven Salvation Army, Peoples United Methodist Church in Farrandsville and the Beech Creek Wesleyan Church. He had a poetic soul, often expressing himself through poems of his own creation, reading poetry at his churches, the local fair and submitting to the Susquehanna Sunrise. A passionate sports enthusiast, Jim rarely missed a local high school football game and was a loyal supporter of the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He loved his community and volunteered his time reading scripture at local nursing homes and ringing bells for the Salvation Army.

Walter is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Leslie (Terry) Olmstead of Jersey Shore, and his son, Matthew Myers of Florida. He is also survived by his sister, Frances Wolfe of Florida. His legacy lives on through his cherished grandchildren—Cheyenne (Zachary) Norman, Josiah Counsil (Destiny Mitchell), Zackary Myers, and Alexis Pavelko—and his adored great-grandchildren: Alivia, Mila, Samuel, and Willow.

He was predeceased in death by his son, Nathan Myers and his brother, Donald Myers.

He will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering loyalty, and the gentle wisdom he shared with those fortunate enough to know him.
