Shirley Cooper passed peacefully to her heavenly home on Friday, August 5, 2022 surrounded by her family with her four-legged companion Peanut on her lap. Shirley was born in Rote, PA on April 7, 1929 to Robert R. Gummo and Freida Ann Rossman Gummo. She spoke lovingly of her parents and how her young mother fed her with an eye dropper because she was not able to drink from a bottle. She graduated from Mill Hall High School in 1947.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest David Cooper, whom she married in 1955. She was also preceded in death by her two sisters, Geraldine Wagner and Roberta Sweely and by a great-granddaughter, Teagan.
She is survived by her children Susan (Ken) Kreidler of Castanea, PA and Michael Cooper of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Also six grandchildren: Stephanie (Phil) Porter of Rote, Jennifer Confer of Lock Haven, Earl (Shanon) Culvey III of Salona, Beth (Josh) Zannella of Castanea, Jennifer (John) O’Connor of Mechanicsburg, PA and Jennifer Kreidler of Lebanon, PA. Fifteen great grandchildren: Josh, Zach, Chloe, Damion, Sierra, Vinnie, Devin, Brooke, Elliot, Corigan, Della, William, Leland, Trinity and Avyon and three great great grandchildren Remington, Lukas and Alina. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews for whom she was a second mother.
Shirley had many great neighbors and friends who contributed greatly to her life. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Bible Church and enjoyed attending services when she was able. She especially enjoyed seeing the children and at one point knew all of their names and birthdays. She had retired from the Holiday Inn many years ago and enjoyed her coworkers there. She loved talking about her years working at Sylvania and her many exploits in the outdoors, especially as a child. She loved to hunt and fish when she was younger and doing anything outside. But her greatest joy came from her family and seeing all the great grandchildren playing together.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Shirley on Wednesday, August 10 at the Dean K. Wetzler, Jr. Funeral Home 320 Main St. Mill Hall, PA at 3:00 pm.
Visitation will be from 2:00 pm until time of service.
