Nora Walizer Mayes, age 96 of Mill Hall, PA, passed away Feb. 4, 2025 in Mill Hall, PA.
Nora was born in Castanea to the late George T. and Margaret M. (Catherman) Walizer on March 5, 1928. She graduated from Mill Hall High School and Lock Haven State Teachers College with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She began her career in the Williamsport School District and then taught 1st and 4th grade at Mill Hall Elementary. She also taught Head Start for several years. She served 24 years as Secretary of the Clinton County Retired Teacher Association and was a member of the Mill Hall Presbyterian Church.
An excellent mother and homemaker, Nora loved making family events special with her delicious meals and beautifully set table. Nora enjoyed doing word/find puzzles and keeping up with current events in the newspaper. She enjoyed her family trips to Ocean City, NJ.
Nora is survived by her son, Samuel W. Mayes (Kimberly Fye) of Doylestown, OH, Granddaughter, Lindsay Sharratt (Jacob), Great-Grandchildren, Lily Jean and Zachary William Sharratt. Son-in-law Donald Eggler, sister Myrtle Heverly, sister-in-law, Leah Walizer and brother-in-law, Donald Deitrich also survive along with several nephews.
Nora’s loving husband of nearly 50 years, Donald W. Mayes died August 1998. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret Mayes-Eggler (Donald), two sisters, Margaret Walizer (infant), Dollie Dietrich (Donald), and her brother John Walizer (Leah).
Funeral services will be held at Gedon Funeral Home, 320 Main St. Mill Hall, PA on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025 at 12:00 PM with Pastor Susan Champion officiating. The burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home one hour prior to the services.
Memorial donations may be made to Bald Eagle United Presbyterian Church 109 Main St., Mill Hall, PA 17751. The family wishes to extend its gratitude to the staff at Eagle Ridge PCH for their loving care.
