Gerald A Lucas
November 18, 1943 - September 27, 2023
Gerald Allen Lucas, known to many as Jerry (79), passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at his home with his daughters by his side after a long and courageous journey with cancer. He was born on November 18, 1943, in Lamar, PA, and proudly lived his entire life in Happy Valley. We have often described our dad as larger than life. He loved living life and this life treated him well. He was blessed with a beautiful wife, Treva Vaye Lucas, who passed August 23, 2022. Two adoring daughters who thought the world of him, Rachel Tews-married to David Tews (Corning, NY) and Jolie Wetzler-married to D. Keefer Wetzler (Montoursville, PA). Four amazing grandchildren, Ethan and Aiden Wetzler and Sophia and Chloe Tews, who loved their Pappy dearly and always thought he was so cute and funny. He is also survived by many extended family members including sisters, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins that were so very dear to him.
Loved ones that cleared the path for Jerry were his parents, Charles and Helen Lucas, and siblings, Ruth Hockenberry, Charlotte Shuey, Charles Lucas, Dallas Lucas, and Darlene Felding.
Jerry proudly served in the US Navy as an aircraft carrier mechanic. He exemplified his patriotism throughout his life and supported those who serve in the Armed Forces. He was a heavy equipment operator and played a role in building many of the roads and bridges throughout Pennsylvania. He was proud that he operated some of the largest road construction equipment in the world.
If you were fortunate enough to have him as a relative, friend, co-worker or an acquaintance you have most likely been touched by his light, energy and vibrance for life. More than anything Jerry loved spending time with his family and friends.
He loved Penn State football, wrestling, Joe Paterno, gardening, birding, auctions, RV camping, and traveling and cruising with his late wife. He enjoyed simple pleasures like eating ice cream and popcorn and going to camp with his friends. Anything and everything having to do with farming made him very happy. He spent a lot of time tinkering with any and all things from tractors to Christmas lights fondly known by his family as “Jerry-rigging”.
Jerry was a special person who made every day an adventure. He led his best life while staying true to his values and beliefs and remaining grounded in his faith and family.
Jerry was loved by many and will be missed by all. We love you and miss you. Until we meet again…….
