Carl E. Andrus, Sr., 97, of Lock Haven, Pa., passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at his home.
Carl was born in Lock Haven to William and Lyda (Rupert) Andrus on March 22, 1928.
On July 7, 1950, he married the former Shirley G. Soverns, who preceded in him in death on Jan. 31, 2013.
He graduated from Lock Haven High School in 1946 and then served in the Army from 1947-1949. He is the longest living member of the Salvation Army and worked at Piper Aircraft for 35 years.
Carl loved game shows, collecting toy cars, fire trucks, puzzle books and playing the lottery. He enjoyed concerts downtown and would wash and wax his car weekly. He was given the name, Donut Man, as he would pick up donuts to be given out at church.
He was a member of the Senior Citizens, Senior Songster’s and Senior band members at the church. He was also a Corps Sergeant Major of the Salvation Army.
Carl is survived by a daughter, Margaret Andrus, of Lock Haven; two sons, Neal (Kelly) Andrus, of Lock Haven, and Carl (Natalie) Andrus, of Lawton, Okla., and a sister-in-law, Mary Andrus; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Carl is preceded in death by a son, Sheldon Andrus; five brothers; and two sisters.
Friends and family will be received on Monday evening, June 30, from 5-7 p.m., in the Gedon Funeral Home and Cremations Services, LLC, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven.
Friends and family will also be received in the Salvation Army on Tuesday morning, one hour prior to the services.
Funeral services for Carl E. Andrus, Sr. will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 10 a.m., in the Salvation Army, 119 E. Church St., Lock Haven, Pa. Officiating will be Soldier Kathy Deavor.
The burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lock Haven Salvation Army.
